Hebrew 101
Learn to Read the Language of the Bible from Scratch.
A 7-week live cohort designed to help you begin to engage Scripture in its original language.
Scripture didn’t drop out of the sky. It came to us in Hebrew, shaped by a particular people, culture, and moment in history.
If you’ve ever wondered what the Hebrew Bible actually says, or felt curious but intimidated to begin, you’re not alone.
Maybe you’ve heard Hebrew words in sermons. Maybe you’ve wanted to explore the deeper meaning for yourself but assumed it was too complicated.
Hebrew 101 is a gentle, joyful on-ramp into the language of the Old Testament.
Its a chance to step into the world of the text for yourself.
And yes… it is fun!

What Makes Hebrew 101 Different?
There are many resources available for learning Hebrew, and many academic courses designed for advanced students.
Hebrew 101 sits in a different space.
You’ll learn from someone who understands both the linguistic structure of Hebrew and the world of the Old Testament, who is also deeply connected to the Church, the Jewish community, and modern Israel.
This course offers:
• Live, guided instruction rather than self-paced videos
• Careful pacing through the alphabet and vowels (where most beginners get stuck)
• Integration of language, culture, faith, and history
• A welcoming, low-pressure learning environment
Most people don’t struggle with Hebrew because they aren’t capable.
They struggle because they lack structure and/or they get discouraged.
Hebrew 101 was built to provide the structure, repetition, and encouragement that early learners need to succeed!

“I am still amazed at how I can now sound all things out in Hebrew after only 6 short weeks! Anna Beth presented the information at an easily digested pace. She did a great job of explaining the depth of language and the deep, intertwining meaning of words. She also helped me understand some nuggets about Hebrew and its traditional blessings and songs that continue to help me understand my reading of scripture.”

At 74, after giving up on Latin, German, and Spanish, I never imagined I’d study Hebrew—but my desire to understand the Bible more deeply drew me in. Anna Beth’s clear, encouraging teaching gave me practical tools that have already enriched my reading and even the confidence to read Hebrew aloud. What began as a tentative experiment has become a genuine joy and a strong foundation for continued learning.
— Gay

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Not at all. Hebrew 101 is designed specifically for beginners. We start with the alphabet and build slowly from there. If you can read English, you can learn to read Hebrew.
-
Most students begin with that exact concern. Hebrew looks unfamiliar at first, but it is highly structured and patterned. When it’s taught step-by-step, it becomes surprisingly manageable. Consistency and willingness to ‘go for it’ matters way more than natural ability.
-
Live participation is strongly encouraged, but each session is recorded and available for review throughout the course. You’ll be able to catch up or revisit material as needed.
-
Plan for about 15–25 minutes of practice a few times per week. Hebrew is learned through repetition, not cramming. The exercises are structured and manageable, and each lesson builds on all previous ones.
-
Each live session runs approximately 75–90 minutes. This allows enough time for teaching, guided reading practice, and questions.
-
You’ll receive a proprietary Hebrew 101 PDF workbook, which I recommend printing before class
-
Absolutely! I would recommend the class to 3rd grade and up. A future curriculum for homeschoolers is in the works — stay tuned!
-
Yes! Hebrew 101 can be hosted in person for churches or ministry groups. Reach out through the contact page to inquire about scheduling.
-
You’ll finish equipped to continue learning on your own. Future Hebrew Haven cohorts are in the works to build on this foundation with expanded vocabulary, grammar, and deeper textual study. Stay tuned!
